lettering on cube faces - 10/23/2006 9:42:32
I'm trying to figure out how to take a 3D cube and place letters on the faces that face at different angles. I'm sure it's fairly easy to do this, but i'm blanking out.

An example of what i mean is the header banner here: http://www.lesterchan.net/blogs/

Can anyone help out?

Oh, btw, i'm using PSPX.

You'll have to play with it but

open a new canvas with a transparent background
select the text tool, type your text and make sure the FLOATING option is selected in the Create as: box next to the Font: style box.
Apply the text and you should find it has moving ants round it.
Go to Effects>Geometric Effects and choose Perspective - Horizontal
In the Distortion box, the higher the number the more the text is sloped

If that doesn't give the result you want then open a canvas the same height as your text
Type the text in
deselect it so the whole canvas is active and then use the perspective skew.
You can then crop round the text or, if you've applied the same background colour as your cube, paste it straight in.

There are loads of effects in there. You may find it easier to do one letter at a time. Like I say, you have to play with it.

Come to think of it, you could also try the deform tool :) which is on the toolbox bar, and drag the text about to see if that works.

I've already tried the geometric effect. it worked, for the most part but seems very flat and dull. i'll give the others a go though. Thanks for the suggestions!

Be careful it's the release candidate not the final version.
