A friend has requested a website and this is the 4th adaptation he's been given. (You can see the evolution of the design by checking the links at the bottom of the page). Here's the site:
http://netmediazone.net/translate/

Aside from any feedback you might have on the overall design, I was curious about something else.

Upon downloading the webpage I noticed that the whole page is essentially a 3x3 table. I've never seen such a thing, but my experience is quite limited (that's a euphemism for a newbie). Is that peculiar? Why would one make a page that way? It occured to me that perhaps the designer took one of my friend's previous pages, made a graphic out of it and put it back together in this manner to provide a quick and dirty sample.

Feedback and insights appreciated!

Having had a small rant about using text within images - I've had another look and I think you're right, I think it's just a mockup of the design rather than how they plan on laying out the final version.

(If by any chance they do plan on using text within images like that for the final design then warn your friend that in no way is it a good idea!)

Better get someone to proof read it - there's a glaring error in the first line of the body copy. For a translation site that's not good news.

quote:

You are in the right place if your looking...

Should read

quote:

You are in the right place if you're looking...

"your" means "belonging to you"

"you're" means "you are"

Typo - forgot to proofread my post.

To me it looks like mockups in Photoshop that have then been sliced for display on the web. The designer is probably protecting himself from your friend handing his concepts to a cheaper designer who can just swipe the code.

Your friend needs to check with this guy what he'll end up with and maybe even insist that he gets tableless layouts that validate XHTML and CSS.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. (I also caught the grammatical error - hazard of my profession). I will pass on your advice as I am meeting with him in a few minutes. It's been very helpful.
