Guest	Editing Web Page Live - 4/11/2001 20:12:00 Does anyone know why i cannot open my web page Live.I can open it with my laptop but not on my desktop computer.I keep getting the message saying.."The folder http://www.sxdirt.com isn't accessible.The folder may be loacted on an unavailble volume or protected with a password"..I have applied all the service packs for office2000,IE5.5 and FP2000.Please help someone.

How often does this occur? Always when editing the web live? If not, check you networking settings and make sure you have DNS and domain information correct. I typically see this error when working on Intranets.

If the domain information is not properly set, you will not be able to connect to the FP web.

I am experiencing about the same problem. Only thing is, mine started after removing the trial version of FrontPage2002. Back to running FrontPage2000 on my Windows 98 SE and cannot open web "live" on any of our websites.

I can switch over to my Windows 2000 Professional with FrontPage2000 and have no problems at all. Same with Windows NT workstations. They all have no problem with a remote open web.

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled FrontPage2000. After uninstall, I meticulously deleted all occurrences and references to FrontPage with regedit.

Thinking there must still be a remnant of code buried on the drive.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I found my problem was due to a AdSubtract, a cookie / Ad filtering system

My connection kept defaulting to a proxy server. I had to add exceptions or remove the program for it to work.

IE > connections > proxy settings for the dail up

If you're running a personal firewall, such as Zone Alarm, FrontPage may not have permission to access the Internet. Or, your ISP may have blocked whatever port FrontPage uses. With the Code Red Worm, ISPs have blocked a lot of ports.

I've searched these forums and found a lot of useful info -In fact, I'm eager to use some of the ideas I've picked up - but I can't do a thing until I can open my site on the remote server! IE > tools > options > connections > "settings" for dialup you are using >

Is a proxy server selected?

IE > tools > options > security > internet > custom level > logon settings > auto in intranet zone only

Here's something interesting: If I open my site in my browser (IE 5.5, SP2) and go to File | Edit with Microsoft FrontPage, I CAN log on and edit individual pages, and I can publish the site back to my hard drive -- which helps some. However, I can't seem to access folders, which I guess I would need to do to mess around with file properties, security, etc. (right?) Still can't open the site live from within FrontPage2000 at my PC, although I can from my partner's (different PC in a different location with a different ISP).

Any insights, anyone?

I have an interesting problem.
I keep both FP 98 and FP 2000 on my work computer, my home computer, and my laptop.

My work computer will let me pull up all domains, including the schools domain in both FP versions.

My home and lap top will NOT let me pull up the school domain in 98, IF I opened it it 2000 FIRST! If I uninstall, and reinstall, open in 98 first, then it will not let me open the school domain in FP 2000! A hoot!

I was so bugged that I reformated the computer, reinstalled, and then both would work. I have since (been a year or so) reformated again, and dang it... I am back at the one or the other problem on the home computer again... My trick as I am just not ambitious enough to reformat right now, or uninstall-reinstall both FP versions, is to go into the version taht will let me access the school domain, go into permissions/security, and temporarily "loosen" the permissions so taht I can edit or publish from the other version also, and reset the permissions a few minutes later after I am done...
I know.... what a security breach, lol! Dont do it too often, which is why I just am not up to reinstalling the stuff again... I am getting a new computer soon, and will set it up correctly again.

It is an installation bug... I think the soluction for me is to open before installing the next version, and then opening in that one too....

No need to uninstall and then reinstall Frontpage. You can "install" over the top of a current copy with no problem.

Running install and choosing "repair" has solved this problem for another member. Give it a try and let us know if that works for you also.

I haven't heard anyone mention calling the Microsoft help desk. These guys really know their stuff and they are incredibly patient and thorough. They will try to charge you, but dodge the come-ons and persevere to the 9 to 5 mon-fri general help desk and get it for free.

Much a I hate Microsoft's business practices, they have re-defined the concept of a helpdesk. More power to them.

(I'd post the number, but I can't seem to put my fingers on my day timer. Just call Redmon; they'll route you through.)

Guest	RE: Editing Web Page Live - 10/18/2001 20:41:00 I have recently discovered that login failure for subwebs/folders for restricted users was caused by a CSS line of code that referred to a css file that the user did not have access to edit in frontpage. The result was that the user login failed, but allowed the user to open the page in frontpage anyway, but could not publish back to the original location. If you use only one username/pass to administer your site this is not the problem. I teach a FP class that has student subwebs for class assignments. This issue has haunted me for over a year - back to when Office 2000 first came out. (in reply to Guest)


Guest	RE: Editing Web Page Live - 12/1/2001 23:37:00 I have had this problem for over a year. I have 3 computers and found that I couldn't open my web live on two of them. The interesting thing is that I might not be able to open it live with the IP address, but I could with the domain name. For example, I wouldn't be able to open it with www.YourMilitary.com, but would be able to with the IP address 64.176.85.151. I would reformat my harddrive after I couldn't open the web with either of these addresses. I found out later that if I waited enough time they would eventually start working again; it might be a day, week or 6 months later. I called Frontpage, who told me that as long as the password window came up then it was not a Frontpage problem. Another interesting thing is that I can open subwebs and other webs that I am working on, but I cannot open my own main website. I know that Microsoft is aware that this is a problem. I don't think there is a fix to it. I am about to reformat a computer that I have and only run frontpage on that one for this reason. (in reply to Guest)

And paid through the nose. So, I might as well spread it around before anyone else has to pay! Sure enough, the only way to open the whole site over the web was going to iexplore and file/edit in MS Frontpage. They tried to walk me through every other way but this was the only one that worked! If you are editing a form to send to email this is the only way you will be able to do it if you are having this problem. Also, my husband figured out how to manage the server administration in FP2002 - use iexplore, put in url and add :7574 and your login will come up and then you are in. I couldn't do it anymore! It now says "edit with Excel"! Arrgh! I've looked on microsoft's site - no luck. I've also tried going to Tools/Options and editing the Programs tab and going to Explorer and editing the folder options/ file types/advanced/edit area but also no luck. Anyone seen this?
