spinningjennie -> CSS Vertical Popout menu and IE (10/25/2006 9:00:15)

I've made a start on making my 1st vertical pop out menu using CSS, XHTML 1.0 strict, and advice gained from sperling.com.

It looks promising, but before I spend any more time on customising it, I thought I'd better check:

1. How much of a worry is it that according to sperling.com 'this technique works for all browsers EXCEPT for IE 5.23 and below. These outdated browsers don't even recognize Microsoft's embedded commands.'

2. If I can avoid using a pop out menu, does this offer advantages?

Many thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't worry about it. The menu degrades and as it's all css anyone with a browser that can't handle the flyout should just get a plain list.

Of more concern is the fact that it doesn't work for people using the tab key to move around the page.

Thanks Jaybee! I'll get to work on it.

I didn't realise people used the tab key to move around the page.

Think about it. Severe arthritis or other mobility problems and they can't use a mouse. Some people have a trackball but I find those a nightmare to use and I suspect they do as well so they use the tab key instead, just needs a press.
