Off Topic - But I need Help!! - 10/25/2006 13:12:43
OK. I went to the Microsoft Community to get help with something and it made the problem worse. I have had much success here with my FrontPage questions, so I thought you guys would be able to help me fix the problem that was created doing what was suggested by someone on the Microsoft Community. From taking the suggestion, now I cannot get onto the internet or into my Outlook express. I tried to figure it out myself by putting my XP Home Edition CD in the computer to just download IE6 again, but it said that it needed me to install the SP2 disk also. I don’t have that!!! All I wanted was someone to help me delete the IE7 Beta 3 stuff that was still in my Add/Remove section so that I could get back to IE6. Please have mercy on me and help! Thanks Pam. Here’s the discussion thread that was on the IE7 Discussion Board. ------------------------------- OK . . . Maybe 2-3 months ago, my husband downloaded the IE7 Beta on my computer. I hated it right away and wanted to get rid of it and get back to IE6. I contacted Microsoft and they walked me through removing the beta from my computer. Well . . . it hasn't worked as fast since. I might as well be on dial-up! So I went back the other day and looked in my Control Panel to add or remove files (since they told me they were gone) and there's something there called . . . Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 - Software Updates Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 (KB922880) When I click on it to remove it, I get an error message that says removing it will not be good for my computer. What can I do? I so not ready to go full-fledge to IE7. I have too much to do and cannot wait 5-6 seconds for a webpage to display. Pam ---------------------------------------- Ray" wrote: Start - Run %windir%\ie7updates\kb922880\spuninst\spuninst.inf Find (CTRL + F) "[Prerequisite]" and change it to "[PPrerequisite]", click File\Save then File\Close Start - Run %windir%\ie7updates\kb922880\spuninst\spuninst.exe Hope this helps, Ray -------------------------------------------- "Pam" wrote: Thanks Ray, but what is this going to do? Remove the IE7 from my computer? Sorry, I'm not very technical -- I thought the add/remove programs did that. ----------------------------------------- "Ray" wrote: That will remove the update for the product you no longer have. Ray ------------------------- "Pam" wrote: HI Ray I did what you said, but I did this . . . %windir%\ie7updates\kb922880\spuninst\spuninst.exe I got a message list of items that would be removed if I continued including some Security fixes for Windows XP. So I didn't go any further. Should I go ahead and do it anyway? ------------------------ "Ray" wrote: Yes you can continue ---------------------- “Pam”wrote: Hi Ray! I did like you said and continued with the info below . . . And now I CANNOT even open explorer on my computer. I cannot get into Outlook express. I am sending this from my laptop because my main computer cannot even logon to the internet now! When I restarted the computer, I received this first error message . . ypager.exe - Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. So I click OK. I received this second error message . . MSASCui.exe - Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. WHAT HAPPENED???? And how do I fix it! Please respond ASAP ----------------- And now, no more responses from the Microsoft discussion and I need to get my computer fixed. Can someone on this FrontPage forum give me ANY help? I don’t have the SP2 disk I cannot login to the computer and download IE6 or the SP2 upgrade. WHAT do I do?

Hi Pam Try doing a repair. Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD and repair ®. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console. Repeat Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console. Press F8 to agree to the licence agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box and then press R to repair Windows XP. Follow the on screen instructions to complete. You will not lose any programs or data but you will lose all Service Packs and any other Updates. As a matter of importance ensure that you visit Microsoft updates and download and install any found.

Hi Pam Don't forget to visit Windows Update and download all critical updates. This includes SP 2.
