Thank you Deb, just downloaded, updated and will now run... AVG Free been taking a beating in the press (PC World and Yahoo Tech) lately. I have never had a problem with it.

BTW, this review is for the updated AVG Free

- Free AV will always take a beating. All of the popular paid AV blow freebies away (excluding the AOL Active Virus Shield). There is a thread on here I started about Norton, which led to quite a bit of information on how freebies rate against paid AV.

Not everyone feels like they need to spend money on AV, especially when there are somewhat decent free alternatives around. There will always been a need for both free and paid AV. If I was on a very very limited computer budget, I would suggest going with a free AV.

Note that AOL has released a rebagged version of the popular Kaspersky AV here.

Hi Bobby,

If you will look at the link I provided it is all about free av programs. AVG Free 7.5 came in last.

- Yeah, I noticed when it said "Best Free AV". I was making a note based off of free AV vs paid.

- But last to them or you might not be last to someone who has a very slow computer and little money (free and fast).
