johnnw -> Popular Fan sites are they saleable? (10/29/2006 16:08:12)

Hi, this might be a crazy question, but I would appreciate some guidance please. Is there any financial value in a plain and simple hobby/fan site?

I created and run a fan site for a sportsman who is high profile and known around the world. Please forgive my reticence for not giving you the URL, but I am curious and just a little wary. I have maintained the site for four years and get approximately 150-200 new visitors a day and 500 and upwards page hits a day. The site is #1 on all the main search engines when entering the athletes name and we also have a forum section (remotely hosted) with a loyal regular daily return audience.

I was just idly wondering whether such a site has any financial worth? And if so, how to make the most of it?

Thanks in advance [:)]

Is there already an official site for this guy? If not then he might be interested in making it official. Talk to his agent. Whether you'd get paid for it is anyone's guess. Fan sites usually don't, you're supposed to do it for the love.

If there is an official site then the only way I see you making any money from yours is advertising on the site with Google Ads etc. Possibly from affiliate links to sportswear or similar.

Most of it is down to your celeb. Some of them want a quality site and are willing to pay for it and contribute to it, others just aren't bothered and as long as their name is out there they're happy to see anything that pops up.
