Form asks for password. - 10/29/2006 17:47:16
Hi, i'm new to this web development, and am trying to create a form for my website.

This is the form page:

http://bestusedexpress.com/Yard%20Website/Form.htm

On the form, when someone fills out the form, it request a username and password. I just want the results to be sent on my email. This is what the form says on frontpage:

<form method="POST" name="FrontPage_Form1" action="--WEBBOT-SELF--" onsubmit="location.href='../_derived/nortbots.htm';return false;" language="JavaScript" webbot-onSubmit="return FrontPage_Form1_Validator(this)">

My web host is godaddy. They suggest i use: "gdform.asp" in the action. However, when i try to put that in, it automatically changes to "--webbot-self--".

I don't know why it requests a username and password, i just want it to send to my email. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Either you are including content that requires a user/pass, or something is not configured correctly on the server side of things.

When I try to access http://bestusedexpress.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/Form.htm I get a user/pass prompt, meaning something isn't right on the server. GoDaddy has horrible hosting support, and this problem most likely won't be solved by a low level tech.

The first step is to create a simple form in FrontPage. Just make a new page, insert a textbox, and the submit/reset buttons as well as the rest of the form should be automatically made. Publish that new page, and then click the submit button. If you get the same problem, then it is 99% a server related issue.

Once you verify that you get the user/pass prompt, call GoDaddy and tell them to fix it. If they say it is working fine, ask them to do what you just did, that way they will see that it is not working.

Thanks so much, the idea of creating a new form worked. Since it was such a simple form and had so little source code, I was able to mess around a bit with it, trying to find a way that would make it email me, and eventually just deleted the whole 'webbot-self' thing... coulden't find godaddy.asp, so I made it godaddy.php which was in my folder. Ended working fine, thanks for the idea!

Hi BobbyDouglas, I have similar problem with my web site - only truened up recently? I too host with GoDaddy and their hosting support is infantile at best. I have tried to create a simple form in FP as you suggested with textbox and submit/reset buttons. I tried to set form properties> options, but the 'where to store results> Send to radio button' has been greyed out? All I can do is work with the 'send to other radio button field'. When I click on Options..... button then all I get is 'Options for Custom Form Handler> Action field, thenMethod field (POST) and Encoding Type (field). Can't seem to get to the 'send to radio button and the hidden fields for file name and email address? I have published the new page with simple form and have clicked submit button. At least I don't get the user/pass prompt. Any ideas and help would be appreciated.

Hi BobbyD, When I click the submit button. Also, how do I 'see' the .htaccess files using FP 2003? I can see the file when I use FTP, but can't see or edit them with FP? I know when I use FTP it 'scrambles' the FPSE on host server and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the FPSE several times because of this problem. Initially the GoDaddy "support" told me it was a .htaccess problem and I needed to fix the files? Thanks.

Hi BobbyD, I have visited the web site of 123ok123, the person with this problem earlier and have tried the web form, it works....but....when I try the shtml.exe/Form.htm link as below the problem on their web site is still there?
http://bestusedexpress.com/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/Form.htm....hmmmmm....does that mean that there is something wrong with the host server still? And maybe I have the same problem. I have tried GoDaddy support and asked them to go to my web site form, fill it in and try clicking submit and experience the user/pass prompt, but they insist that the problem is on my side?? Again, thanks.

Hi BobbyD, Think I have solved the issue. I created new form etc etc....but I was doing it all 'live' including the small changes to the forms which had previously worked OK. After much 'floundering' it dawned on me that I needed to create the new form on my 'working copy' web site held on my PC...duh! When I did that and then published from my PC to my web hosting site...bingo!.....the forms worked again? FP must pick up some 'hidden' stuff from my PC when working on my web site 'live', and when saved 'live' embedded in the saved file. When I try and view the saved file on the www the user/pass prompt appears. Needs to be a 'warning' on the FP user manual re changing forms 'live'. Have certainly learnt the lesson the hard way. Anyway, all fixed now and I thank you for your patience with this issue.
