open SQL Database .bak file - 10/30/2006 12:54:11
Hi,

I am able to download my database from my SQL server with a .bak file type. I have not been able to open this backup with any of my regular programs or excel. Is there a simple way to do this or do I need to purchase some type of SQL databse manager software?

If I do need additional software any suggestions on one that won't break the bank?:)

Mav,

Its a file that should be restored into the database with the same software.
If you used enterprise manager to create the backup, then youll need to restore it to 'read' it.
Its not like an access / excel file unfortunately

Thanks Spooky,

I was just trying to pull down a copy of one of my tables. My SQL server provider uses a software call "mylittleadim" that lets me access and administor my database. There are controls for downloading in xls, csv, xml, formats but it times out and gives me an error message each time I try to downlaod my main table. I have tried all formats.

It works fine on all my other tables but not on my main table. I am new at this so my main table is only about 600 lines. Each line is made up of about 35 colunms which are mainly address, name etc. Most of the fields are yes or no qualifiers for the database.

Maybe my table is too large or perhaps I should contact my provider to see if they can help me. I hesistate because each time they fix something, something else gets thrown out of wack.

Happy Halloween Spooky:)
