Why is this happening? - 11/1/2006 14:44:40
I created my website using a template from Frontpage 2002. Everything looks great on my computer and works fine. When I published my site and went to look at it, two of the pages with photo galleries repeated themselves and didn't show any pictures. The other pages with photo galleries work just fine.

Any thoughts on why this happened and how I fix it?

The pages that repeat are:

Thanks!

The gallery is put in the page by an include.

The include is in there twice or, the code is in the page as well as the included page.

Can't tell once it's rendered live but I can see the include line twice.
<!--webbot bot="PhotoAlbum" U-Include="photogallery/photo3311/real.htm" clientside TAG="BODY" startspan -->

The original html on my computer does not have that line repeated. It just happens when I publish.

So do I just delete that line using the html editor on my hosting server or is there something I should be doing with FP before I publish?

I am confused as to why it did that for those two pages and no the other ones as they were all created the same way.

In that case, delete both pages on the server, then republish.

I haven't aseen tghis in over two yhears.

I believe it is a server issue.

If on Unix have the host read this:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q299360

If on Windows have the host read this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298827/

Take care,

Brian

Hey Brian tghis happened to me a couple of years ago too and I can't find the original posts in search either, but it was definately a server problem and the host has to do the registry fixes mentioned in order to solve it. I vaguely remember that they also had to apply an XP2 update at the time too - on a windows server that is.

Republishing will have no effect other than replicating content again until the fix is applied and the web(s) are recalculated.

I have tried to get the FrontPage Server Extension 2002 SR 1.1 patch but apparently it has been end-of-lifed. Is this something that my web host can fix or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of FP?

You might want to wean yourself away from FrontPage Extensions. My host has already emailed me stating they would no longer support FP extensions and I bet other hosts will soon follow. Expecially if Microsoft drops support for FP extensions.

Good question roseyj100. I was just trying to warn you. If your host gives up on extensions then you may not be able to publish. However, I have found that on some hosts that say they don't have extensions I can hit the publish button and my web will publish. BUT, anything that requires extensions don't work. The free Tripod servers for instance.

I tried uninstalling my FP extensions and publishing via ftp but that didn't work at all.
So if I can't get my site to work since Microsoft is no longer supporting FP 2002 what should I do now? Do I upgrade to FP 2003 or is there another easy to use software out there to try? Should I try something different with the photo galleries since these are the only pages that repeat?

Thoughts anyone? I am almost ready to just give up on the whole thing!

Rose

I noticed that there is a notice on the bottom of one of your pages that says This site was last updated 10/27/06 which implies that you haven't changed anything on those pages. Did you delete those two pages from the server like Larry M suggested? Then look again at those pages on your home computer and see if any of that photo album code is duplicated. If not, try to publish again.

Also, turning off the extensions will disable parts of your web site. (like the contact form for instance)

I had uninstalled the extensions, that is why the date was incorrect. I reinstalled the extensions and republished but it didn't make a difference. The code on my computer does not repeat. Those two pages only repeat when I publish my web.

I have removed those pages from my web and will try to recreate them and publish them later. That's all I can think of to do.

Thanks for all your help!

Rose

Yes, please try that and report back. I had your problem last year on one page and I was able to fix it by deleting the page from the server and my computer and recreating it from scratch.

See what happens when you drink and type (Among other things :))....kids don't try this at home :).

Back to the thread, you can republish all you want, it won't help.

Pass the links I dropped in my last post to your host and ask them to investigate. This was a VERY common problem a few years back.

Take care,

Brian

Rose, you could look at the replacement for FrontPage, Expression Web, which currently has a free beta download on the MS site. It doesn't need the FPSEs which, as you rightly say, MS have stopped providing and supporting.

You can upload using FTP but, and it's a big but, you need to make sure you upload all the hidden folders that you can't see in FP such as _private _borders.

If you have any MS bots such as themes, galleries or navigation etc then they won't work without the FPSEs.
