ou812 -> Already Searched Newly Protected Pages (11/3/2006 12:49:27)

I just recently password protected some pages for a client, which have documents linked from them. This all works fine, but google has already crawled the documents prior to protecting the pages. So, if someone does a search it gives a direct link to the document(.doc or pdf files).

Since google can no longer crawl these pages will they go away sometime from being displayed in google? If so, any idea how long that would take? Or am I just going to have to change tree structures or document names to invalidate the links that google has?

thanks!

I would hit the following and request to have it removed...

Thanks, Brian.

I created the robots.txt file with the directory that needed to be removed (and some other meta tags), and then ran their manual submission to process it. So, perhaps within 5 days it will be gone...

It has worked for me in the past. It did take around two weeks though.

Take care,

Brian

Worked for me too, now. And, it only took a couple days.

Thanks again for the tip.
