Web Hosting - 11/1/2001 15:13:00
I'm looking for a web hosting service and I would rather choose one that someone here has had a good experience with. What I basically need is cheap rates, multiple domains per account, ASP & access database compatability, and FP extensions. If anyone has a web hosting service that offers these services and you've had a good experince with, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks.

http://www.datapipe.com isn't the cheapest, but I feel they have the best customer service team ever assembled. I have several StoreFront 2000, 5, and 5AE with Access and SQL backends sites hosted with them with no troubles at all, and I have not had pracically any success with hosting SF sites through ANY OTHER host due to the complexity of the back end configurations. They get my 100% percent approval....

You can try these guys. I've been using them for the last 6 months and well recommend them. http://www.xcalibre.co.uk/

MySQL, FP extensions, ASP, etc, are all supported and their service is second to none.

I agree with Scott, Datapipe kicks butt! Their reseller program is great, response times even via email are very fast, and I've never been on hold during a phone call for more than a couple of minutes. Highly recommended.

I use a few different hosting companies but am more and more starting to favor one called http://www.readyhosting.com [mostly for the low price of SQL2000.] They were top ranked on C-Net for resellers when I first found them. They have just one price for everything which is $99.00 per year and $50/yr for each domain after that including domain registration. [500megs HD, unlimited emails, DSN's, Bandwidth, the usual extras ASP, FP2000, etc] The only option that they have which costs extra is SQL2000 which costs you an extra $25/yr for each 50 meg of SQL server space you use.

Normally I would not react this way about a company someone recommends, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt after the 18 months since I used them last, but...

ADDR.COM? HA! Unless they've improved 100% in the last year, then I would avoid them like....anthrax. I was with them for about 9 months from June 1999 to March 2000 and it was a NIGHTMARE!!! Drooling idiots for techies, my FP extensions crashed weekly, and they made promises to fix things and get back to me and never did. I BEGGED for help frequently, and I was summarily ignored; until I submitted a cancellation request. THEN the came back and offered me 6 months of free hosting to stay. Where were they when I needed help? 6 months of misery for free? I think not.

ADDER.COM is the WORST!!

Well,

I have been with them for two years now and have not had a single incident of the extensions crashing or anything else for that matter. So I guess it is just a matter of opinion. I like them, someone else does not.

Been using www.featureprice.com for several months, for three accounts. Besides speedy email tech support they have toll-free phone service. You're usually speaking to a tech person in less than two minutes.

Their plans begin at $4.95 per month (50 mb) payable one year in advance, plus $20 year for domain registration. Monthly fee will never been raised.

I am very, very pleased with their service and response.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with TimC. I have been with ReadyHosting for quite a while, and have signed up approximately 25 of my own clients with them. (as a reseller)

There's good and bad to say about every single web hosting company out there, but this definitely has to be the best bang for your buck...especially if you are a MS Developer.

Just don't call their Tech Support during your lunch hour...you'll be on hold a while, but they have a great online Q and A.

Best of Luck.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Parcom.net. There was a similar thread a few months ago, in which Parcom was highly recommended. I took the forum's advice and used them, and, so far, I'm very happy that I did.
