Moved: Hard Drive Horrors Part 2 - 11/6/2006 17:26:52
Okay well i came back and i still had a few more questions but it seems that my topic has been bumped down so I'm posting this back up for a bit so i can get some answers to a few more questions First off, I've decided to keep trying and not contact samsung after all because i want to figure this problem out. Now what I have done and got it working to a semi-working state is that same as before i formatted it as a USB disk which seemed to work fine, which probibly brought up the suspicion of a faulty IDE but i shooed it away as my other drive could install just fine untill i read this post: quote: also I'm pretty sure it is not a faulty IDE cable because I am able to install XP on my smaller 40 GB HDD with no apparent problems - That's only true assuming you used the same cable with the same connectors. Most IDE cables have a primary/seconday connection, if one works on the primary, it doesn't mean the one on the secondary will also work. So i thought maybe, just maybe my IDE cable was not working properly, and another thing is it is sort of a old cable with a few knicks and scratches but it never seemed to have a problem before. So after formatting it as a USB disk I've inserted the drive into my computer as a secondary drive and it seems to read and write fine so I have decided maybe to try and install windows to it, because i don't really like having to go to a backup drive for my files, and it is also to have a backup OS incase if something were to go wrong. But here is my fear, if i were to install windows to that drive and the install would fail in some way, how could i revive my primary disks boot options. From past experience i know when you install a secondary windows, the OS selection prompt from boot.ini sets itself to 0 seconds and automatically selects the Windows that hasn't been set up yet. So that is my question, as always any help what-so-ever will always be appreciated. Original topic: http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-346558/key-Hard%252CDrive%252CHorrors/tm.htm#346558
