Vertical menu - 6/18/2001 20:02:00
Hello,I don't know if this is possible but I'd like to have a vertical navigation bar made of text links - well that's possible - but between each link I'd like a horizontal line graphic - preferably each of these would be in their own cell of a table. Does a FrontPage vertical navigation bar in text have to be all together without separations or graphics? Thank you.

I do not know of a way to enter graphics into a FP vertical text nav bar.An alternative would be to use an include page for your navigation instead. Sandy ------------------ Stu Reilly Design Allegheny Web Dreamweaver Sites [This message has been edited by Goober (edited 06-18-2001).]

Hello Dobbin,Everyone is telling you correctly that you can not have a frontpage verticle navigation bar separated by horizontal line graphics. You could however make a table and put your text links and horizontal line graphics in alternating cells. It would not be hard to do and you could get the effect you want. You could also as Sandy suggested put the table in an include page so it would automatically appear on each page of your site. ------------------ If you are going to think anyway, you might as well think BIG

Goober hit it dead on, and here is a prime example of a FP "include page" navigation element using horizontal lines for separation and a vertical line to separate from body content.navigation-right.htm P.S. Note, this is one table with two cells; one containing a spacer set at 15 pixels wide and the cell has a background image assigned to it that creates the vertical line at left. The other cell contains the text navigation links 100 x 10 pixel grey horizontal lines that are actually 2 pixels thick with a white canvas of 10 pixels total. There is a soft return <br> after each text link and horizontal line so that spacing remains consistent. All this is done with one table and two cells. You want to minimize the amount of html code bloat that you have on your pages. Working with a minimal number of tables and cells is one way to keep things under control. P.S.S. Other navigation elements on the site: navigation-header.htm navigation-footer.htm

You can add a divider line by adding a 1 or 2 pixel line at the bottom of the vertical navigation graphic.See what I've done at http://www.agilecor.com The left side is an include. The vertical nav graphic could be easily changed so that a thin line separated each line of text. Mike Rischard

Sorry about my brief answer on this one... I was going off Dobbin's other post on a horizontal nav bar problem where it was said this needed to be done with nav bars. In case that changes, and for everyone else reading this, the follow-up on this has been excellent. Thanks, guys! Linda
