mistareno -> Liquid Layout (11/9/2006 8:28:38)

G'day Guys,

I posted a month or so ago asking for feedback on a site I do for my Car Club.

I got lots of feedback, and am about to have a crack at a CSS site.

I have also been fidling around with different ways of incorporating a flash slideshow (fixed in dimensions) into a liquid layout website.

I've looked around and most seem to be fixed width. Presumably to get around this problem.

I ended up trying a rather unusual layout which while basically a 2 column layout is a bit different.

The test site is HERE

What do you guys think? Good or Bad or indifferent?

The Navigation doesn't work, and the Flash is just a quicky...

Richard

Well it's interesting but it doesn't work for me. With the two sections and the bit in the middle I don't quite know where to look first.

There's a reason why most sites are laid out in a similar fashion and that's because the studies done say people scan the page in an F shape.

Well done for trying but a rethink is needed.

I hate to say it but I prefer your current design!

You could make that design much more fluid by incorporating the nav in a vertical design rather than the current horizontal and making the other sections fluid.

am I only supposed to see the cars in the middle section? I see 2 white boxes w/ black part in the middle with parts of cars as they roll by....kinda confusing.

Neat concept and you obviously have alot to communicate. However from a purely compositional point of view, the cars scrolling left in the center tend to grab my attention and lead my eyes right off of the page to see where the cars went!

You have put alot of work into this and it really shows but when it all boils down what happens in the basic composition is what keeps your customes intrest centered on your message, or led right off the page!
