Sliding Marquee in Firefox? - 11/19/2006 21:54:42
Would anyone happen to know how to have a sliding Marquee actually slide and then stay on a page in Firefox rather than scrolling over and over?

I've tried Javascript but can't find anything that really does it.

Here is the * Marquee:
<marquee loop="1" behavior="slide" scrolldelay="50" scrollamount="15" direction="left">This is a bit of text that slides, at least it's not blinking.</marquee>

Bascially I just want it to behave in FF as it does in IE.

* Yes, I know that using a Marquee is an extreme offence. I know the html will not validate. I also know that it's not going to do a thing for accessablility. No lectures please :)

All the browsers work differently. If you want them all to behave the same then you're looking at Flash.

Thanks Jaybee, unfortunatley I don't know the first thing about Flash (and will admit that I don't really want to know :) ).

I eventually found this script for gliding text that works in FireFox, even after I mucked around with it.

Any of the flashier HTML type toys will be handled differently by different browsers. Scripts are usually pretty safe (as long as your visitor has Javascript enabled) but for completely identical Flash is the way to go. If you're scared of Flash, and lets face it, it's not the most intuitive of things, there are now all sorts of wizard type packages around that make it easy to set up Flash banners and ads. If you use a plain background and sliding text you'd never know the difference between that and a Marquee.

Thanks again Jaybee, this is the first time since 1997 that I've used something like a marquee, and only because one of the bosses wanted to pull in meeting reminders so they would 'stand out'. That script works well enough for that when they log into the managers section of the Intranet.

I think the main reason I want to steer clear of Flash is because I hate it with a passion. Actually I don't hate Flash, just the way it is used :) (a note to any Flashers, please include a Skip Intro and don't use it just because you can). I browse with it off in FF :)

I may have to look at using it though to pull in bits and pieces from the Manager Group Calander, it would work well for that I guess, even if I would loathe every second I was actually using it as I vowed I never would.

It has its place as long as its relevant to the site. Entire Flash sites are a pain.
