This isn't illegal, guys. If you download the free Microsoft Reader, you'll get the genuine Frutiger Linotype font bundled with it, licensed only for you.

Frutiger is not your average cheap freeware font. It was designed by a real design guru called Adrian Frutiger in 1968 for an airport in France. It's one of the best humanist sans serif typefaces the world has seen and one of my long-time personal favorites. If you for some reason want to get the full Frutiger font family, it costs about €350 on CD from Linotype.

Please, don't abuse this font. The license is only for you on a single computer. If you do commercial design, it's always best to purchase separate licenses for your fonts. Typefaces are expensive pieces of design you borrow from a designer or a foundry with a cost. They're doing it for you to make your design job easier. So don't support font piracy. (You can use this particular bundled font also in commercial projects.)

For home use on birthday cards, invitations, word processing and whatsoever these free font offers are real gems.

Here's the download link.

Probably not suitable for use by some of the good people on Outfront. [:D]

If typefaces have religious views, comic sans must lean towards Scientology.

Hey, I didn't come up with these names. [:D]

FF Meta, Agenda, Bliss etc are also humanists. It stands for “relaxed”, “calligraphic” or something less geometric. Also Helvetica and Arial have some humanistic qualities (they're also sometimes called “realist” or “plain”).

Hi Andeskorte

thanks for the tip! Somehow, my new PC already had it but I downloded it to my laptop.

You ought to suggest an equine-influenced font. It is understandable that some members of this forum feel the humanity factor more than others. Just ask Curious Monkey! Myself, I would like to see more mangoesque fonts!

Yes, Yes, Yes.

batya7 -> RE: Download Frutiger font for free (11/30/2006 14:11:19)

Thanks for the info. It's a nice one. It appears to have downloaded other fonts, too: English111 Vivace BT, Humanst521 BT, Weltron Urban, ZapfEllipt BT, etc.

Now that I've downloaded it, I really don't want MS Reader. Can I uninstall the MSR and keep the fonts???

Practically, yes.

But if you use the fonts in commercial work, it's recommended that you purchase a real license. It isn't expensive, usually just $25 or so for one style. Just in case.

It really did install those extra fonts? I didn't know that, it's probably because I had them already. [:D]

Thanks Anders, I try [;)]

I like Frutiger having worked with it a number of years ago, along with benger (sp)-something.

Benguiat perhaps?

caz -> RE: Download Frutiger font for free (12/2/2006 16:02:53)

That's the one Kitka, thanks. (It was a very long time ago, in a different life [:D])

anderskorte -> RE: Download Frutiger font for free (12/2/2006 18:12:11)

What a coincidence, I used ITC Benguiat in my last project as a logotype.

I'm not a big fan of it, but it works sometimes.

Thank you very much for the information. I would like very much to have the "frutiger" font. I clicked on the link you give. I downloaded "MSReaderSetupUSA.exe" and I installed the "Microsoft Reader". But I did not find any directory for any font. I did not see "frutiger" font. I then downloaded "ReaderTTSInstallENG.ext" and installed it. But I still can not find any font. What I need are Frutiger "67 bold" and Frutiger "55 Roman". They should be "TrueType" or "PostScript1". Could you please show me how to manage it? Thank you very very much!!

This thread is way over two years old, so it is possible that the download no longer contains Frutiger. However, if it does and you have successfully installed MS Reader, you will find the font installed in your Windows font directory (normally C:\WINNT\Fonts). You should have Frutiger Linotype, Frutiger Linotype Bold, Frutiger Linotype Bold Italic and Frutiger Linotype Italic. "Frutiger Linotype" would be the equivalent of your "Frutiger 55 Roman" and Frutiger Linotype Bold is the equivalent of "Frutiger 65 Bold". But "Frutiger 67 bold" is actually a condensed version which you won't get with MS Reader. You will need to purchase it.
