256MB vs. 512MB? - 11/30/2006 3:31:44
What is the benefit of a 512MB video card over one that has 256MB?
I'll be running Vista, designing graphics and have a many applications
open at once. However, there won't be any large amount of animations or
gaming.

Thanks

I think the usual reply you'll get is, go for the best you can afford as you don't know what's just around the corner in terms of new software.

So no gaming, ok. How about intensive graphic programs and video editing programs? If not using anything along those lines 256 would most likely suffice. My main question is what is the price difference? If minimaul I would second JBs suggestion.

Take care,

Brian

Go for a big as you can afford ;-)
Im sure someone else will chime in, but one thing to check is that the card will work with vista and try to get DX10 support

If you are not doing any gaming at all, 256 is more than enough. I'm not sure what a 128mb card would look like on Vista, but on XP it handles it just fine.

I think 512 mb is actual only for TOP videocards like 1900GT/7900GT or better
