Midnight -> Be honest (11/30/2006 18:37:31)

Now this is the site I am updating. If all goes well my creation should be up and running within 2 weeks. I didn't design this site so be honest, it won't hurt me. When I have uploaded my updated version I will also post it and I would love you to let me know whether I should quit my job and do web disgn or stay where I am, [:D]. Just kidding this is my first site.
Thanks guys.

I've had to edit this thing twice now because I can't spell. Haha.

Download and install Firefox. It has a built in spellchecker and underlines words in the post reply box.

Now to the site. Are you quaking in your shoes yet? [;)]

First impressions are good but..........

Get rid of those Marquees! Aaaargh! They are so old hat, they scream amateur and OOOOh look what I just found. It's usually the first thing new designers stick on their sites and 6 months down the line, hurriedly take them off again. Same as counters. [:'(]

Now the two left columns are crisp and professional (apart from the danged moving text) but the right hand side lets it down because of those logos which are badly rendered. Sort them out so they're sharp.

The blue in some other pages is horrid. Stick to the same layout and styles as the rest of the pages. If it all looks a bit bland, put some photos in or some good quality (and I mean good quality) clipart that's relevant to the page. Here's an example of what I mean. Tasteful. Not like that appalling pig on your financial services page. Oink!

When I got to Templetons Master Plan I thought the plan was to confuse me. The whole thing changes colour. I understand why, I think, But Why? It looks like you've gone to a different site. Nice blue though.

Templetons Super and whoa! Where's all the page style gone. Looks like you got fed up when you reached that page and the only way back to the site is the back button.

Oh and more moving clipart. Keep the page still unless you're going to have some very high quality Flash work done. Animated gifs usually look cheap and tacky.

Well you asked for it, you got it. But well done on the rest though. It's a heck of a lot better than some of the stuff that turns up on here. A few tweaks and you'll have a very nice site.

JB is dead on with the eval. On the upside you have allot of content which is usally the hardest part of making a website. So you are 2/3rds of the way there. Keep at it.

Thanks Dave. It's 100% better. [:)]

Midnight, don't use bitmaps on your site. They are far too big and the temptation is to then use FP to shrink them which reduces the image size you see but leaves the file size the same. It also doesn't do much for the look of the thing.
