Two pop out menus - 12/2/2006 0:43:38
Good Morning:

I am trying to use a vertical and horizontal menu (external css and text files and include) however I can only get the vertical to fit into the left hand column. The horizontial should load into a div below the header however it appears in the top left corner of the page.

I have been reading hundreds of threads about css and I have a slight recollection of reading something about having two menus on the same page but I don't remember what was suggested or required.

Does anyone know if there is anything special that has to be done to achieve what I am trying to do?

Please don't ask why I don't simply relax and use only one - the answer is that I WANT to do it simply because I want to - I'm sure it must be possible but just have to figure out how.

Thanks in advance

Jack

You'll need to post a link because it's pretty much impossible to diagnose issues without it.

I'll take two guesses though - you might be getting issues because:

1. You're using absolute positioning to position the menu below the header but haven't made the containing div position:relative which means the absolutely positioned item will take it's positioning reference from the viewport itself (so it'll be for instance 5px below and to the right of the top left of the page rather than from your header).

2. You're getting Javascripts clashing because of the two menus on a page thing where you've got duplicate ids of bits of the menu confusing the javascript.

Edit: also - although you obviously want to get this problem solved, it's not a good idea to post the same question in several fora simultaneously - it can mean people wasting their time trying to solve a problem that you've already got the answer to. Post in one forum and if you don't get your answer then try another one!

Dear Tailslide:

I don't have any samples on line just now as I got annoyed this morning and deleted them all. I have this annoying habit of renaming each page as I think I am correcting it and then uploading so the site gets full of junk - obviously my supposed corrections are no better then before so I deleted them all with the intention of starting over again.

I have just been reading a tutorial on positioning and will take your comment in consideration when I make the next attempt - it's Saturday night and I going out and get away from this problem - maybe some time off will help. I will post a link when I put another sample on line. Thanks for your advice and effort.

I will take your comment about multiple posts to heart - it should have been obvious that others read different forums as I do.

Thanks again.

Jack

No problem Jack - we've all been there when something's driving you mad and you just want to sort it out!
