read through that and tried the live trace but it didnt work. is there a way to make a logo or graphic that is already in the vector format while you are making it?

why feel stupid? :)

have a look in your illustrator help files on auto tracing and see if that helps you figure out the tutorials. from there you can save it as an illustrator file (*.ai) which is vector format. when you'tr making new logos just start them in Illustrator and they will be in vector format. :)
hope this helps!

Apologies, I read that as you already had a logo and were trying to convert it.

lets say i made a logo or graphic in another program, if i open it in illustrator and save it as an .ai, is it automatically a vector now? or do i have to convert it?

if it was vector in the other program (and saved as/exported in vector format such as .ai), then yes it will still be vector, *opening* it illustrator itself doesn't make it vector

if you used the bitmap tools in PS to make it it won't be vector. if you used the vector tools in ps then it will be vector. saving at as ai in illustrator will retain whatever info is there - either bitmap or vector, but won't convert one to the other (unless you save some vector artwork in illustrator as a bitmap)

so when you draw a shape, it is a vector shape, untill you click on the layer and "rastarize" it. ???:)
