labrake -> usb 2.0 (12/6/2006 18:52:42)

I recently installed a usb 2.0 pci card on my desk top and in the device manager it says there is an hi speed controller and it shows the 4 ports and i also installed a self powered 7 port hub but when i connect any usb 2.0 device it says this device will perform faster on a usb 2.0 port and then gives me a list of available ports to which i am already plugged into. my system is operating on xp with service pack 2 and is an amd 1.5 processer with 1 gig ram.I am at a loss to come up with any cure any help will be greatly appreciated???????????

I'll be interested to see if someone comes up with an answer. I had exactly the same problem on my old machine and never did figure it out. The only thing I thought was that maybe it was to do with the hub. Belkin by any chance?

Hi

This could be a driver issue. Check out if any driver updates are available.

I reinstalled drivers and tried new drivers till I was blue in the face - still didn't work. I think I even did a BIOS update. Nothing. Evey time I thought I had it working, I'd unplug something from the hub and it would start all over again.

Anyone want to buy a hub? [:D]

oh forget that you have to join (i.e. pay) for updates :(

I have to ask the obvious question, is the hub USB 2.0?

I also have the identical problem on a Dell desktop.

Started with a Belkin card but it did not have a firewire port so I bought another card with 4 usb2.0 and one firewire port. Same error message with both cards.

Go to this forum for more USB help. http://www.usbman.com/

Mine was (is except it's now unplugged and in disgrace in the cupboard).

Ooooh and another one. I too had it on a Dell desktop.

The resident Dell expert here came up with the BIOS update but that was a load of rubbish so I locked him in the cupboard with the hub as punishment.

I've let him out now so I'll make him go look for a fix. [;)]
