Outlook 2003 problem - 12/11/2006 10:08:39
I have a strange problem. I have built a Windows XP Professional machine. I have installed Office XP and all works well. Outlook connects to the Windows 2003 Server and opens the Exchange mail account. I upgrade Outlook to 2003 and I receive a message "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart outlook". Email cannot be replied to or deleted. If I uninstall Outlook 2003 and then uninstall Office 2002 and reinstall Office 2002 everything works fine. Outlook 2003 seems to cause the problem. The user does not use a .pst folder and all their mail is hosted on the Exchange Server. Any thoughts? Steve

RE: Outlook 2003 problem - 12/11/2006 11:35:54
Solved the problem. The computer was a new Dell. It came with Office Small Business 2003 as a trial version. When building we accepted all the latest updates for Office Small Business 2003 along with Windows Xp etc. We installed Office XP. Then we upgraded to Outlook 2003. Our version of Outlook 2003 is about 8 months old. It would appear that our Outlook upgraded the Office Small Business 2003 version and not Outlook 2002 as we expected. It seems as though we mixed old Outlook 2003 files with new Outlook 2003 files and caused the problem. We uninstalled Office Small Business 2003, installed Office 2002 and upgraded Outlook to 2003 and everything worked perfectly. Hope this helps somebody else. Steve
