HELP! Can I "publish" the navigational struct... - 12/11/2006 17:50:39
I don't know how it happened but after making several changes in the content of my site, the navigational structure on my live site got messed up -- badly. The copy I keep on my computer has the correct structure, but is missing all my changes I made (I didn't "publish" the life site back to my computer for fear of overwriting the navigational structure).

Is there a way to publish the nav structure that's on my local copy of the site without overwriting the text content on the live site?

I sure hope SOMEONE here can help!! I know I can re-do the entire navigational structure, but it'll be VERY time consuming.

Hi Barbara,

Unless you've used "includes" for different sections of your site, that means that each component like banner, footer, navigation etc. are different pages, then I don't think you can get around this without calling each page up and correcting what's happened manually.

Seeing as it's a site that is now online, is there any chance you can post the URL so I can be sure of what I'm saying?

Barbara you need to get FP to recalculate the hyperlinks.

1. Save and close and opened pages.

2. Click the Tools menu and select "Recalculate Hyperlinks..." from the menu that appears.

3. Click "Yes" to start the recalculating process.

4. Give FrontPage a few minutes, depending on the size of your web, then, you can publish.

However if you are missing changes then you need to get the live site on your computer.....

Take a copy of the site on your machine, call it something completely different.

Publish from the host back down to your machine.

recalc the links on that one and then publish back up.

Once you know it's right then delete the other copy.

Apologies for giving false information then, I don't use Frontpage much apart from code view and publish, I really don't know all the little quirks it has.
