fhenkel -> DNS Disappeared? (12/19/2006 9:37:27)

I need to be pointed in the right direction.... One of my customer sites, which I host, suddenly has disappeared. I've tried a ping and get it cannot find domain name. It is using ZoneEdit's service along with three other sites and they are working fine. I've check the info for this site at ZoneEdit and it appears to be ok. I've checked the site on my server and it is up and running and I can get to it within the Intranet fine. I've also checked GoDaddy, where the Domain Name is registered and the DNS servers are corrrect. Any ideas appreciated.

What's the domain name?

BobbyDouglas -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/19/2006 15:29:19)

Might have expired?

We need the domain though to know for sure what's up.

fhenkel -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/19/2006 17:08:31)

The Domain Name: circlebranch.us

It is good for another 2 or 3 years. Yep, just checked and it doesn't expire until 2/19/09..

The nameserver is not reporting any NS records

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=circlebranch.us

Get on to ZoneEdit and tell them to fix it.

Actually it might be that both nameservers are down which is bad.

In either case, get on to Zoneedit and tell them to fix it.

Did you call ZoneEdit? I cannot ping the above IPs either (which is not a bad thing - some do not support that) but chances are that it is at ZoneEdit's side if the domain is good

jaybee -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 7:19:57)

Their blurb says

Primary, secondary and failover

so either the whole lot is down or they've completely screwed up your NS records.

fhenkel -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 8:52:08)

I sent ZoneEdit a email right away since I also felt it might be on their end but I still have no reply from them. Thank you all for your input, it appears we all agree it may well be at their server record...

Well here it is on their Status page.. Thanks.

Make a note of how long it's down. Check their uptime claims. You may be able to claim money back for lack of service.

"We are currently experiencing issues with NS2.ZONEEDIT.COM, NS3.ZONEEDIT.COM, NS6.ZONEEDIT.COM, and NS17.ZONEEDIT.COM.

and that leaves ns1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 16 as fallbacks. Given they state they have failover, I would have expected them to switch the lot onto a working server. Not good.

[edit] Ooops, missed 14. [&:]

You would think, wouldn't you Jaybee (especially since that is their main focus)? We have three DNS records - one even in a different DC on the East coast.

fhenkel -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 12:16:43)

From bad to worse.... Now You can't even ping ZoneEdit.com....

They may have blocked Pings. I'll bet there are a lot of people doing it. [:D]

coreybryant -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 15:03:22)

Can't you just go into your registrar and add a working name server?

BobbyDouglas -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 15:37:14)

This is the second time I have seen Zone Edit have a MAJOR issue. The entire point of hosted DNS is to get rid of the risk, yet ZoneEdit has brought down way too many sites. Glad I haven't tried them out.

fhenkel -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 18:37:20)

I've got the rest of my sites DNS with SiteSolutions and they do not have a limit of 5 like Zoneedit and they have been rock solid. I may look at moving the other 4 sites to them if this isn't resolved soon.

BobbyDouglas -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/20/2006 18:56:43)

Resolved soon? Within 30 minutes I would be finding another provider.

fhenkel -> RE: DNS Disappeared? (12/21/2006 12:25:50)

Agreed, but it is only a site which I just started for a local ranch and I called them right away and they were very understanding. BTW, it is back up this morning.. Thanks for the input.
