Spooky -> Cant browse to a web site (12/21/2006 19:48:16)

Ok - this is wierd.

2 PC's sitting next to each other both running via a router.
One PC (for the kids) cant contact nickjr.com

My PC can.

I can do a tracert from the kids PC sucessfully.
For some reason, its blocking access to this web site

There is no net nanny type software, there are no rules in the router. Where the heck do I start looking to fix this? DADDY WANTS HIS PC BACK!!!!

Security level settings in the browser? You're not using IE are you?

Errrr actually I can't get it either. The site seems to be having problems.

Tell the kids they've broken the site and the nice man at NickJnr is very angry and says they're not allowed to go there any more. [;)]

Spooky,

From a squeeky clean machine, www.nickjnr.com returns "Cannot find server or DNS Error". And, yes, jaybee I continue to represent the steadily diminishing minority of OF members who still use IE [sm=BangHead.gif]

Spooky -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (12/22/2006 13:15:36)

The URL is www.nickjr.com

Still the same here, one PC will get it (ff or ie) the other pc will not. Too wierd.....

jaybee -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (12/22/2006 13:32:59)

Got it here now, in FF and IE. [8D]

Cache problem?

When you set it all up did you restrict the kiddies machine via the firewall or anything?

[:D] IE7 is a lot better. Not 100% yet but much better.

This is on a fresh install of FF2 as well. I guess Ill bypass the router first to see what happens

treetopsranch -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (12/22/2006 23:18:13)

Loads in Netscape BUT is very slow to load and when it finally does load it takes forever for the graphics to show up. Watch the url on the bottom of your borwser and you can see it is jumping through lots of hoops. It goes to a doubleckick ad site also.

Spooky -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (12/22/2006 23:31:42)

Well, Im flummoxed for now - there arent any rules in the router - and anyway, they would apply to all 3 connected PC's (not just 2) <sigh>

jaybee -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (12/23/2006 6:55:57)

Check the FF security settings and see whether both machines have the same set up.

SerenityNet -> RE: Cant browse to a web site (1/31/2007 0:26:31)

Sounds just like the problem I posted in this thread. I've since had it happen on two or three other sites. One PC would get the site and the other PC would not, sitting side by side on the same router. I even went so far as to swap the Ethernet cables to see if the problem followed the cable swap (it didn't).

Try megaproxy on the offending PC and see if you can get the site that way (I could). Or try the Google gadget proxy fetch. For me, the sites came up fine when using a proxy.

Twilight Zone sort of stuff.

See if they can go to http://206.220.43.92 (should redirect to the mtv website if it works).

I've been using OpenDNS lately with great success, if the issue is DNS related (which sounds true), then you might be able to get around it using OpenDNS.
