Pulling My Hair Out! - 12/29/2006 20:05:10
I have been trying to get a simple form done for my site. When I hit the submit button, it goes to an error 404 page and I don't get the info via email. I used the form wizard and the long route...nothing is working. I have gone through the tuts..still nothing works. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have been at this one thing all day long! Thank you, Linda http://www.Lindaandcompany.com/customerform.htm

At a rough guess, I'd say the path to your results file is incorrect. Try changing this bit of the webbot code: u-file="fpweb:///_private/ClientInfo.txt" to this: u-file="_private/ClientInfo.txt" You'll either need to edit the page in HTML view, or go to Form Properties and change it there. Plus, ensure that the file named ClientInfo.txt exists in your _private folder. If that doesn't work, let us know and we'll look at it again.

Are the FP extensions enabled on your server? Did you publish or ftp? "The requested URL /--WEBBOT-SELF-- was not found on this server" This error may indicate that you may have used FTP instead of publishing if FP extensions were enabled. As a side note Linda, don't use FP forms. They are not secure.

They are enabled on my server, I did ftp as the "publish web" will not highlight for me to click onto. Not sure why that is. I have searched for the answer, but nothing. So, I should make my own form and not use the wizard? Thank you, Linda

The FPSE may have been enabled once, but they are not working now. I tested your site here: http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm and it reports: WWW Site: www.lindaandcompany.com Port: 80 Server Software: Apache FrontPage Extensions: NO It is likely that FTPing your files has corrupted the FPSE. You (or your host if you don't have a control panel) will have to reinstall them. If you need FPSE you must publish using http not ftp. But Don is correct - the FP form handler is insecure, it is better to use a third party script. One that is very secure and highly recommended is Mike Cherim's. A number of the regulars here use it, so help is at hand if you need it.

WOW!!! What a wealth of information. You all ROCK! I have been posting on the Microsoft forum, with little help (them mainly speaking in tech terms) which I didn't understand. I am so happy to have found this forum. You all are my new best friends..LOL I will go and reinstall on my server, then go to the other site to generate my form. It does have php as my other 2 sites are php sites. Crossing my fingers, toes and legs! Thank you, Linda

Thanks...I downloaded Mike's and it is looking pretty greek like to me. Did I mention this is my first site....and I am a natural blonde..LOL....so I am learning as I go. My main attributes is graphic design...so this is a new field for me. I wanted my site a certain way, so I figured it was easier for me just to do it myself..yeah...right!! Forget the blonde part...I do have a degree! hehehe If anyone can give me a start on the form I downloaded from Mike, that would be great...at this point, I would pay someone to get this form done for me!! Any takers? I need more coffee!!! Hugs, Linda
