Changing servers - for the novice! - 12/31/2006 12:43:38
Greetings! BTW, the novice is ME! I'm in the process of changing over from Microsoft's bCentral hosting to another host. I have already purchased the space and have an IP. My question is, how do I go about uploading (or publishing) my FrontPage web site to the new host? FrontPage doesn't allow publishing to an IP address (that I can figure out, anyhow). I'd like to avoid any downtime, of course. Thanks in advance for guidance! Cheers

http://192.168.1.1 <-- replace with your IP. If you don't want downtime, you need to upload to the new host, and then change your DNS for your domain name.

You might ask you new hosting company if they provide temporary URL. Or check the control panel. A lot of times, this is the case. once everything propogates - make sure you publish again, especially if you are using any Frontpage components

Thanks guys! Now it seems the problem is out of my hands... FrontPage give the error FPSE not installed. I don't have access to my web host control panel yet, so it will have to wait until Tuesday. Thanks again and Happy New Year! Cheers

You can publish using FTP. This will put your files up on the site, and then you can later use the normal Publish feature. It's better to have a website online with broken FPSE components, than nothing at all. Your FPSE will not work until you actually publish using FP though.

Have you tried accessing your control panel with the IP address? Usually with new domains I can access the cPanel using the IP address followed by the rest of the file path to the control panel. No, I haven't tried that. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "IP followed by the rest of the file path". quote:
