Do I need 64bit Win XP for a dual core 64 bit CPU? - 1/5/2007 9:05:44
I didn't even think of it when I ordered my new system. I currently have the same copy of windows xp home I've had all along. Do I need to get 64 bit XP professional for my Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor to work? I'd hate to have to have to buy a retail copy.. argh Thanks <no links - in sig only>

From what I've read about this, very few programs make use of the 64bit version of XP.

Hello Luis101 A 32-bit program might run slower on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition than it would on Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Alternatively, some 32-bit programs that require lots of memory may exhibit increased performance on the x64-based versions of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Maybe best to wait for Vista.
