There really isn't a set list anywhere about the issues, but by reading customer comments, you can get an idea about what's wrong with them. Let's say you have a hosting server that can hold 100 clients at $10/month. You change the price to $5/month and then double the clients so you still come out the same. This is the idea of what these cheap, low cost hosts do. It comes down to quality of hardware and service. It is the very small things that end up being a problem. One example is having a dedicated server at GoDaddy, and having a set limit of 1000 messages that can be handled per day. You'll more often than not find that when you deal with support from these cheap hosts, their first idea for addressing an issue is a problem on your end. You can get dedicated servers for around $100 at semi-decent places. If I was to go buy a ded server, I would spend the extra money to get better tech support, better service, redundancy, and ensure that backup hardware is on-site. The other day one of our main switches died, our server was up and running about 30 minutes later. A datacenter in Colorado just recently lost power due to all of the storms, a lot of servers were offline because they didn't have a good enough plan in place to deal with power outages. If our main power goes out, backup generators automatically kick in - there are on-site reserves of something like 15,000 gallons of fuel. When things like this happen with these cheap hosts, don't expect too much from them. I've heard horror stories where hosts were down for 24 hours due to having to replace something like a switch. Instead of buying a 2nd switch, they saved money and decided they would buy once there is a problem. What happens when your server gets blacklisted due to someone sending out e-mail spams? Your host has to e-mail the place that has it listed and ask them to remove it. Spammers are greatly attracted to free hosts, did you know GoDaddy sometimes offers free hosting accounts?
