Okay, first thoughts...

You've got a couple of lovely pics there of the birds, but unfortunately your logo isn't very clear and is rather pixelated and ragged around the edges - that could do with tidying up a bit.

The classified ads page is a totally different format and feels as though it's a totally different site - for consistency and to avoid confusing visitors who might think they've gone onto a totally different site, you're best sticking with the same format throughout. You've also go a completely different logo on that page (which is very nice btw - much clearer and probably more suitable for the logo on the home page).

Similarly you've got other pages all in different formats, many without even the site logo on and it just doesn't feel like it's all one site. Another thing with the other pages that don't have the same style or logo is that if those pages are indexed by search engines and someone lands on one of those pages directly from a search engine, they've no idea what site they're on and how to get anywhere else - it's only if they scroll right to the bottom of the page they'll find text links. There's no obvious navigation (except those text links) and personally if I land on a page like that from a search engine I don't tend to try and find out if there's anything else on the site if the navigation's not obvious.

On your home page you've got lots of links to other areas of the site, but no actual content - there's nothing there on the home page to tell you what the society's about, what it does, how you can get involved. There's nothing there to attract people's attention, and with that much navigation, you don't know where to look and where to start first. From the search engine's point of view too, content is good. Presently there's not an awful lot for them to index apart from all the links.

Technically, it's not bad. You've got a fair bit of proprietary code in there, but it's displaying fine in Firefox (one of the more standards compliant browsers) which is good. You've also got alt attributes on images which need putting in, but you've got the makings of a nice site there.

Womble

Thanks for taking the time to review, and I really appreciate the constructive comments.

I know the logo image is not the best, we are working on a new one.

The second page style is a lot different, its just a test to see if we liked that design. Personally, I thinks its a little too "fluffy" and not business like.

Its a work in progress.

Anyone else have a comment? Its at http://www.nfss.org/

Thanks Again.

Harry

Harry,

Being a novice as well I can only speak for looking pretty. The home page has a directory feel to it. Like the Furry One, Womble, said there's really no content describing anything. I think the logo on the classified page is a good looking one and unless you have something else totally different in the works I say go w/ that. The other comment I had was on the colo(U)r scheme... is there one? No to sound rude but on the home page all the links are the normal blue and the background is just white w/ borders.

Lastly, I'm sorry if I'm being cruel..... If the lovely Mrs Tailslide were to see you have no Doctype... ooooo I can't imagine the horror! :)
