Choosing hosting provider - 1/11/2007 9:42:38
Which hosting do you use? What is most important for you about hosting?
In your eyes, is it a serious advantage for an affiliate program, if it offers free hosting to all of the partners?
Please, advise.

This is a question that will have different answers depending on each persons "comfort level" with a host and how things work. Me I have never called my host other then server is off line scenarios. However a client I had called the host everytime a small issue arose as she did not know what to do. Not kncocking her in the least, just different comfort levels.

Hate to say it but it depends.
Me, no I would never have a site hosted by an AMs' host. Reason being is I want NO association on your class C block of IPs. I think it gives a bread crumb to algorythems of the SEs in determining if the site is an aff site. Others however will jump at a chance for a free hosted site. It cuts down on the monthly expenses.
Also when I get a "feed" I use one of several programs to change words so the content does not appear to be duplicate content.
Did you ever pop over to ABW as I mentioned in one of your prior aff questions posts? They are a WORLD of knowledge on getting you to start the program on the right foot. Also they normally drive us affiliates to your program as if it is on ABW it is a good starting point of trust.
Trust is what will make or break a perfectly laid out affiliate program. If you do not respond to your affiliates in a timely manner or take them into consideration they will leave you as quick as sh*t in the backyard. We don't just throw up a couple of banners...it goes WAY BEYOND that. Also rewarding top tier earners by giving them an extra % or so will make them work that much harder and stay loyal.

I m using their service since 2003 and was happy in all respect…
( this post is not intended for marketing my host, but can be considered as a vote of thank to my host )
Don’t go behind affiliate program and compromise your hosting need, you know it can affect your site’s performance and you may get into trouble when your site gets down.
Free hosting is not recommended for well established sites.

you can try some shared hosting provider like dreamhost or dotster, there are usualy discount coupons that you may find to save some money.
eg dreamhost > offer50 will save you $50.00
but you need to do a research on the reliablity before purchasing.

Uptime, Responsible - support should be there but probably in the 18 months that I have been with TechEvolution, I have only needed to call them twice.
A few companies I have used ORSC Web, Hostway, and TechEvolution. I have been pleased with each one.
Hostway - I left because we got our own servers. We had them at CalPop for about two years and then moved them to TechEvolution. ORCS - I have just a simple website hosted there. They do most of the things for you.
Hostway I think was the best. I used to help mirror a site and it ran up a lot of bandwidth - so I was paying sometimes $1,000.00 a month. Of course this was way back. But then they started to offer unmetered bandwidth and the billing department actually called me and told me they set up my account to show their new prices about a month before they went live. That is why I am really impressed with Hostway. Things might have (probably have) changed since then - this was towards the end of the 20th century.
