Hello

I got a nice new machine (Compaq Presario) about 6 months ago and somethings I love but there are 2 things that are really getting me down. Despite a bit of googling and lot of thinking I'm no closer to understanding the problems:

Any ideas

1, After booting up without loading any additional applications the thing is making a lot of noise. The cooling fan seems to be running pretty much all the time and the hard drive makes a lot of noise too.

2, When I'm using the DVD drive for CD burning the mouse pointer will often disappear. It still responds to clicks and is there on the desktop but being invisible makes it useless. Switching applications or even putting the machine in standby wont make the thing come back so its a full restart to get the thing back.

I've loaded lots of CDs and pictures on there and haven't got access to lots of storage so I really dont want to reinstall everything from scratch but its getting to the point that I might need to do that.

My old Compaq ( now being abused by my kids) runs lovely and quietly and has no issues with its burner so it makes the whole thing even more annoying

Top tips and helpful comments gratefully received. Putting it up for sale on EBay probably isn't going to be that helpful!

Nick

Compaqs are not renowned for being quiet but if it's excessive it could be the fan or the hard drive.

Make sure the vents aren't blocked. If you have it against a wall then you're blocking the air circulation.

If it's not that and you can't see any obvious blockages by looking through the grills then get in touch with Compaq. It's a new machine so it's under warranty, do not open the cover!
