levins -> can't find outgoing server (1/12/2007 16:59:34)

Does anyone use sbc for email? I am trying to setup email in outlook. When I type smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com, I get can't find outgoing server. When I type mail.mydomain.com, I get can't find server.

Yesterday and today mail.mydomain.com worked fine for outgoing mail server. This afternoon it doesn't like it.

I forgot to add. I did call sbc. They told me their outgoing server is smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com

I finally got the email to work with mail.mydomain.com after calling sbc.

Just a couple more related solutions here...

Sometimes changing the default outgoing port from 25 to 26, will fix your problem.

Sometimes changing the smtp server to an account with a hosting company, and then selecting the "my outgoing server requires authentication" box, will also fix your problem.

I did have "my outgoing server requires authentication" checked. SBC also had me check "leave a copy of the messages on the server".

What I found interesting is, SBC was willing to try a few more things on their end when I was on the phone with them because he said I sound like I know what I was talking about. Every time my customer called SBC, SBC kept telling him the problem was on my end. He needs to call me.

- All this does is makes sure that when you download your e-mails, it does NOT remove them from your webmail/server.

I set my e-mail program to keep messages on the server for 3-5 days. This means that my mailbox will likely not get 100% full. So if you don't configure this option, then there is a possibility that once your mailbox reaches 100%, you will no longer be able to receive new messages. SBC might auto delete old messages once your mailbox gets 100% full, but I doubt it.

I questioned him why would "leave a copy of the message on the server" make a difference. He gave me some explaination that I can't remember. I'm just glad it finally works.
