I cannot figure out if squirrelmail has filters of some kind or how to use them. SquirrelMail itself doesn't have any filters, but as it is usually supplied with a hosted site that has a Control Panel - your control panel should have some anti-spam tools like Spam Assassin or Mail Scanner. quote:
I have removed my direct email address from my website and replaced it with a frontpage form but that did not seem to help. Given that Frontpage forms place your email address in the source code - in plain sight of the harvester bots, that is no surprise. You need to use a secure third party form which is coded in PHP, ASP or Perl - depending on what you have available on your server. If you have PHP, the best one around currently is Mike Cherim's. But even if your address is removed from the site, it is already on dozens of spam lists and will continue to be sold to other spammers forever. The most you can hope for is a small reduction in spam.
