BeteB -> IE7 and Java Applet problem? (1/16/2007 23:33:26)

I do our Computer User Group’s Web site. We have a Members Only page and to get to it one has to key in a user name and password into a box. This Password Authentification is a Java Applet and has worked fine for several years. But I think there is a conflict between Java and IE7? Now when one clicks on the Membersonly button on our homepage (http://www.svonline.net/~svcclub/) the box (Java applet) pops up, but it doesn’t stay on the screen. It goes down to the taskbar. One can click on the item on the taskbar and then it will come back up and works fine. There is no problem in Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla—it opens and stays on the screen and works fine. So there must be a problem with Java and IE7? Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can remedy this situation? As always, I really appreciate your input.
Thanks. BeteB [8|]

Is it to do with the security options / popup blocker in IE7?

You could always add a message to your page

"This site best viewed in anything other than Internet Explorer".

Muwahahahaha, The tables are turned. [:D]

Sorry, couldn't resist. Tail is right, there are loads of new settings in IE7 and it's just going to be a case of playing to see which if any sort out your problem.

The Password "Authentification" [sic] box stays on my screen viewing with IE7 default settings although it displays on monitor two, not over the call-up screen on monitor one. If possible look at the Members Only screen on two or more other IE7 machines - the problem may only be confined to a few Lee & Whiteside county "Tinker Bells". Do, however, explore the aforementioned .js script display anomaly.

Despite Jaybee's joyously derisive comments (I'm sure you made her day) it would seem your problem is not browser related.

It vanishes down to the toolbar on all 4 machines here.

(Thinks how did I know Larry would rise to the bait. [:D])

BeteB,

Jaybee's above & my earlier comments would seem to support the thesis that the Members Only .js script is the culprit. Perhaps a command line to open the Password Authentication box in a new window ?

If you can't figure it out, post the script for the OF genius coder group to mull over [&:]

Thanks everyone for your answers. OutFront.net is the best. You are right, it is a JAVA problem. After upgrading to JRE 6 the problem was solved on my computer. I have posted instructions to our members on our News Updates page: http://www.svonline.net/~svcclub/newsupdates2.htm

Life is good [:)]. Thanks again.

BeteB
