I want to migrate to using Dreamweaver, but I'm having a problem. I do know that the web server this site is on uses FrontPage Server Extensions, and that the webmaster will not allow FTP. Can anyone help me figure out how to access the site, copy it to my computer and begin using Dreamweaver with FPSE? Thanks, MTRaptor

Well unfortunately, FPSEs are FrontPage Server Extensions and they are there to allow you to Publish sites from Frontpage. They won't do a thing for Dreamweaver. You have two choices. 1. Work on it in FrontPage. 2. Work on it in FrontPage. When you say webmaster do you mean that or the Host? If it's the host, go find another one fast. You can grab the site easily enough to get it on your machine and then use DW but you can't get it back up there unless you are provided with something other than FPSE. You also need to take into account that some of the things on the site may use the FP bots to work and they need FPSE and won't be editable in DW. You'll have to replace them with something else. The problem is that I have no control over our host, it is our school's website. It is our ROTC website that I am dealing with. If I could change to using FTP, trust me I would... I hate FrontPage. I'm feeling sick at my stomach now thinking that I have no choice but to use it. There are no extensions or anything that will allow me to use Dreamweaver, I suppose? MTRaptor (in reply to jaybee)

The good news is that it doesn't use any FP specials apart from the timestamp. It's built using CSS and you can pull the .css file into DW with no problem. Most of the rest is javascript. Again no problem in DW. It's getting the site on the host that's going to cause you trouble.. Ask if they would consider a secure FTP. I don't have FrontPage... which is going to be a problem. I have just put in a request to my commander to get it, but these things take time. For now, is there a way to at least get a copy of the site to my local machine without using FrontPage (I'm assuming the answer is no, but doesn't hurt to ask). (in reply to jaybee)

I'm accepting the fact that I'm working with people who don't know what they are doing and don't want to put the time into improving it.
