I was looking at the options for the pop out menu, but think I would like drop downs under the navigation bar.

Problem is, that the ones I have tried don't fit into the cell I have - I mean not at all.

If I had drop downs in those categories, I think it would enhance the sections & create more clicks etc.

Be nice if it was browser friendly!

I'd be more than willing to pay for the code - you add a few pages in the drop down, coding in the ... for lack of a better word " Clean Look " and I can probably add more links to the drop down.

Let me know.

If this is something I should PM you about, let me know if I overstepped.

Your problem, looking again at the site is you're going to end up with too many places for people to click.

You've got links in the header, a menu under that, a side nav, more links in the page. If you then have dropdowns as well you're likely to lose people in the site.

My thought was to Replace the Links under

Navigate Our Site

HOME REPAIR INDEX
BLACK MOLD INDEX
SELL US YOUR HOME
REFINANCE LOANS

Maybe add HOME STORE

with drop down menus in those cells.

That way I could shorten my left nav that is a mile long by incorporating the Favorites and Store into the drop downs.

That would shorten the left nav up dramatically.

Are we seeing eye to eye?

I may not be explaining it well.

OK, honestly? I would say get rid of the menu across the top and go for a menu on the left that works like this one

This way you end up with one menu, then visitors only have to concentrate on that and all the links in the centre content.

The code for that is PHP and I can walk you through it if you have PHP on your host.

THINKING OUT LOUD!

OK, Honestly - :) I like that php nav bar to a point.

It seems like it will work well for a site that has a few content pages and some cool games.

I dont much care for the left nav jumping up and down.

I'm going to have a totty and stare at the site for a bit.

Sometimes I have to sit back and look at the site and not just keep adding more and more.

Although I have 1000's of content pages, there are pages that I need to highlight, because they pay the rent.

And as much as I love my millions of visitors, and enjoy being a source for countless home related answers in my content pages...

... I'm a greedy bastard and love the income side of the business - lol

So the top nav has to stay. Or A Nav bar that stands out.

I may be able to break the sections down more.

Interiors
Exteriors
Home Repair
Mold
Store
Home Buying etc

Is the code pretty simple?

The more I think about it, the more I like it.

If I'm going to eliminate 5 inches plus of left nav, I can afford to break down the sections in a little more detail without cluttering things up.

And visually, it's more appealing than a bunch of drop downs.

Gonna grab a glass of wine and look at it.

You need to try and split yourself in two. The absolute must haves from your point of view and then the layout from the visitor's point of view.

The must haves can then be section headers or main menu items, the other stuff needs to be grouped and put in drop downs so for example you have Tutorials then all the other stuff under that. Maybe even a further flyout or down if there are dozens of tutorials, group them under subjects. It makes the site a lot more intuitive and people can get to what they want easily rather than reading through hundreds of links.

We try and push Accessibility a lot on here but sometimes to the detriment of Usability which is a whole subject in itself. When you get a visitor saying how easy your site was to use, then you know you've hit the nail on the head.

Haven't dropped the ball on this. Daughter has strep throat and is a not in a happy mood - docs / hospital and full time babysitting for gramps, since my sweeties can't get close to their Mommy for a couple more days.

What is the best way to get started on the code for the left nav?

I looked at the source and it looks a little tricky.
