Search Engines - 1/28/2007 5:52:37
While I'm busy asking questions anyway :

So, search engines then. I guess this must be a question that gets asked periodically, but : there you are, you've created your website and you want everyone in the world to look at it. Presumably if you just trust to the likes of Google, Yahoo etc., if you're lucky you end up getting spotted once in every hundred thousand or so searches. What can you do to increase your chances of getting seen, and is it necessarily the case that whatever you do it will cost you money?

short answer : no...
Long answer : possibly...

Spend some time looking up SEO techniques, this you can do for free...

utilize your new knowledge and apply those SEO techniques to your current site, this you can do for free...

Don't expect overnight success.... it can sometimes be a long road to achieve good placement....

an optimization tweak that works in one SE may not work for another SE....there is sometimes a trade off...

so far, you've spent nothing and gained knowledge that can make you a profit potentially.....

or........

you can pay someone to do all that for you...
you spend big and gain no knowledge. And you're at the mercy of that person, never knowing if they are doing the correct thing until the cash comes in.....or it blows up in your face thru shady tactics...

bottom line....spend some time researching search engine optimization and stay away from people that promise "overnight success"....

hope that helps!
