womble -> Advantage to parking an established domain? (1/30/2007 18:46:25)

I'm quoting at the moment for a redesign of an existing site - the site will be changing owners, and the new owners will obviously want it redone with their own logo etc. At the moment the site's domain name has another couple of years to run. The new owners are wanting their own domain name, but I'm not quite sure what to advise about retaining the existing domain name as well. My thinking initially was that as the current domain's well established and has a pretty good SE ranking, that the best thing to do would be to go ahead with the new domain and park the existing domain onto it. I was figuring that the traffic coming via the existing domain would help the site, but I'm wondering now if it might actually be a bad move, as maybe the SEs would see it as duplicate content - or would that only apply if there were two sites with different domains but exactly the same content? Perhaps I'm thinking about this too much - it'd be like parking any other domain wouldn't it? Any views appreciated.
