fhenkel -> Created blank site but saving with EW crippled? (1/31/2007 9:23:00)

ok, I have created a brand new blank site on my server and when connecting to it with EW I get a screen I have not seen, it is "Remote Website Editing Options". I select to edit "Live" and it connects fine. Now I create a new Default page and it has no problem. When trying to save the page the message I get is that it wants sharepoint services or FPSE's installed on the server??? The whole point of this is to get away from those two with EW?? Any Ideas.

I must admit that I have not been able to get live editing via FTP to work. I use FPSE's to connect for live editing.

Thanks Tom, so what your saying is to install the site with FPSE's installed anyway and just don't use them? Works for me but I would think if MS has pulled them from the newest Editor, you would not need them at all any more... hmmm.. Thanks again.

You don't need them. You can use them. EW uses sharepoint but you can use any FTP client to get the site up there.

Your problem is editing live. It's not something I'd recommend with or without FPSEs. If you work on your local machine then upload, you always have a backup in case things go wrong. You're also not disrupting your visitors with pages that keep changing right under their nose.

Jaybee,
Not sure your aware but if you have Sharepoint on the site, EW comes up and will not access the site at all. It tells you that it cannot edit Sharepoint sites, you must use MS Sharepoint Designer.

Also if I don't edit live then I can't see a number of the things that only work when on a webserver, isn't that correct? Getting it up there is no problem if I use a FTP software I realize that. It appears that Live editing has been taken from us and forced us to do local editing only and then FTP. This would also take away the neat option in FP which kept track of all the pages that have changed automatically.
