Profitweb -> Create & save form results on ASPX page? (2/4/2007 18:48:01)

I am creating a Master page for my website and I am trying to include an email submission form on it that will save the form results to a TXT file on my server. Alternatively, I can save it to a mySQL database via phpMySQL, but I'll need to use php enter it.

How can I use a form on an ASPX page (only kind of page that can be created by a Master page?)? I can't figure out how to save form results with ASP.NET. If you can suggest easy to follow instructions or a script I can buy to make this work, that would be great. Please help me find an answer to this problem.

EW gives us Master Pages but no way to use forms??? I can make ASP.NET forms but I can't submit the results?????? What am I missing here?

Thanks!
Kim

I'm right there with you. I am using a form that's an aspx page, but am able to connet to my sql db to populate a drop down menu and other form fields, however I can't find anything that allows me to submit the data in the form to another sql db. Can someone please help? I've always used asp in frontpage to do this, but would really like to start using asp .net with EW. Thanks in advance.

Now I've never done this with MYSQL. That being said have you tried using a formview with insert enabled. It might be something that simple. I did a Google on it and didn't find much.

Before anyone tries to go any further with this can I just make sure that you're using a Windows host and not a Unix host?

If it's Unix/Linux then forget asp.net you'll have to use php.

Yea you would need a windows host. The person said they used ASP so I was guessing it was a windows host. Good questions JB.

Jimco has two great tutorials on forms submitting to email, http://www.jimcobooks.com/tutorials/default.aspx

and he replied in the Micorosft forums with the code that produced a confirmation page - such a great guy.
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner&mid=a82f15e6-dd54-4136-8abf-87a1bce80fcf

Could you vary this from email to page, or even hire Jimco to write it for you.

I thoroughly agree that I would pay to buy some of the more complicated scripts in . net2.0 that we would have to just change our variables. Jimco did say he is working on add-ins for Expression, so lets hope he and others can invent these that were so treasured in FrontPage but cannot be generated in EWD without being a coder.

Phil
