spinningjennie -> Remove white edge of clipping mask Illustrator 10 (2/7/2007 7:21:47)

I have a raster image of a logo which has an elliptical raster shape around it. I want to remove the white background which is outside the bounds of the elliptical boundary line, using Illustrator 10. This way I can place the elliptical logo onto a gradient background.

I'm new to Illustrator. Since 1st posting this I have now worked out how to create an elliptical clipping mask by creating an elliptical shape over my logo, then selecting both the logo layer and the ellipse and choosing Object, Clipping Mask, Make. My gradient now appears beneath my logo.

The slight downside of this is that I have a narrow white edge around the outside of my raster ellipse. Is there a way of removing this in Illustrator 10?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

no so up on illustrator as i would normally do this in ps or fireworks, but have you tried making the ellipse slightly larger/smaller, have you set its edge or fill to antialias, and if either of these doesn't work try a small amount of feather (if you can) on the edge. if you're still stuck post a link to the image - preferably as a tif or bmp, or 24/32 bit png

Many thanks dave for your helpful suggestions. I needed to work on this image in Illustrator, rather than PS because I had to redo some text that followed the shape of the ellipse.

I have now adjusted the ellipse clipping path and the gradient colouring so that the problem is no longer visible. Strangely I don't see an anti-alias or feather option for the clipping path.

Thanks again.
