I was reading PC Mag the other day and ran across an article on how Google is saving all of your searches (if you login to their search engine for something or another). And, here's how to erase and pause those searches if it's happening to you and you don't like it.

You can login to www.google.com/psearch and see what search history you have as well as remove it, and then pause/stop the history from collecting more.

This is strange. I use Google extensively to do web searches, and following the instructions in the PC Mag article, I logged into my Google account to review the search history they had on me. It's not only completely blank, but the "Pause" and "Clear History" buttons the article references are missing. The calendar on the search history page also shows no active links to bring up searches from prior days. Either Google is not tracking my searches or they don't want me to see the goods they have on me! I don't allow every Google cookie to be stored on my PC and that must be preventing their tracking my searches.

Jeepless, what you described is exactly how mine looked too. But, I was attributing it to me never logging into google except for some specifics, but then always logging out prior to doing anything else, including searches. Hmmm....[8|]

As long as Google doesn't sell/give my information to someone else, I don't mind if they are recording my searches. If anything, I would hope they would do it to better their SE results. I think the best search engine will be one that brings results based on criteria of the person doing the search (gender/age/job/hobby).

actually, Yahoo is aiming at that exactly. They are closer to launching 'Panama'. It will streamline your searches. Also, you can set your RSS feed through the recently released Tubes Yahoo.

ou812, thanks so much for this info! I'm so glad Google is giving us the ability to remove the history (although that may or may not mean they've deleted it from THEIR records. And with the US government trying to get their hands on SE records these days...)

To remove the history, do the history search (just press the Search History button at the bottom of the page after you login), then make sure everything on the left column is selected, then click Remove Items. The next page shows a detailed list of all your saved searches. Click the ones you want to remove and then click the Remove button at the bottom (or Remove Items at the left side, I suppose). It will erase those items from your history (at least the one it shows to you).
