mhack -> webpage advice (2/14/2007 11:22:22)

I'm a huge Expression web newb.

I've ported a very basic website from frontpage to expression that is used for a simple company intranet. The site has a few pages with basic internal company info with links to pdfs, docs, xls,,,etc... I've modified the design of it in Expression and now it looks alot more pleasing to the eye and is being hit more often by internal users.

Anyway, how would I go about creating a page that contains internal job postings? I could do it a very simple way but would somehow like our HR user to be able to modify her job posting page herself. Jobs are posted a few times a month and don't really want to make the manual change everytime. Basically, some type of blogging type interface would be ideal where she could jump on her page and update it without getting IT involved. Anyone else have a simple yet efficient way of accomplishing this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Outfront. We're all EW newbs as it's only just been released. [;)]

Go take a look at SnippetMaster. If your server can run PHP then it's a doddle to use.

It's a basic Content Management System. You install it then go to the page you want the user to be able to chabge, put two lines of code in, one before their content and one after. Then you're done. You log in via the admin panel, pick the page from the list if there's more than one, and an editor pops up.

Was a bit reluctant to use another 3rd party program until I saw the word FREE. Snippets sounds like something worth attempting.

Do you by chance know of anything in Sharepoint Designer that could also accomplish this? We have that as well but haven't dove into it yet but could load sharepoint services if need to.

If the tools we have can already accomplish the same functions that Snippets can do, then I would check that path out also.

Thanks

I know absolutely zip about Sharepoint but I understand it's possible. Wouldn't have a clue how to go about it though. All my stuff is on Unix so Sharepoint is out.

I have been playing with Sharepoint a little every few minutes every week. Consider Sharepoint Expression's big brother. Another program you might take a look at is http://www.contentseed.com as well.

Content Seed is great but it costs and it might be overkill for what is needed here. If it's just one or two pages then Snippetmaster is ideal.
