AbbyCookie -> Password Protect a website (2/18/2007 23:29:00)

Hi! I am creating a website for a softball team and want to grant permissions and/or password protect the site, as there will be information on there that should not be available to general public.

I have found several suggestions on the various FP help sites, but none have worked for me yet. I am wondering if you know of some instructions, step by step, that you can recommend to accomplish this.

Can you protect a whole site or only individual pages? If you know of some good instructions, please advise. Thank you very much

Thank you!

What's your host? Unix or Windows?

This is going to be a subsite since it won't be active for that long. I can upload it to either a Unix or Windows server, as I have accounts with both. So I would say whichever one is easier to upload it to! :)

In Unix you can password protect individual pages and folders via your control panel. It pops a rather unattractive log in box but it does the job.

If you want something more professional. For WIndows there's Spooky Login, link in the column on the left or you can go look for a script in www.hotscripts.com.

Also, check your host control panel. Often they have free scripts ready installed.
