Starhugger -> Text versus graphic (2/19/2007 21:46:00)

I've been approached by an individual advertiser who wants to put an ongoing ad on a page in my site. The ad consists of a banner graphic plus text with several links (both the banner and in the text). I decided to put it all in a box with the word "Advertisement" immediately above it in very small text.

The advertiser has asked me to change the text word into a graphic of the word. I suspect at least part of this is to hide the commercial nature of the ad from crawlers (which I'm not entirely comfortable with), but I'm not sure of all the implications of doing this.

I'm wondering if someone here can spot any other reasons for this request? Thanks for the help!

If it's text or the banner name is something like advert or banner then it'll get blocked by ad blockers.
