This morning FP refused to start and tried to "install" itself. Of course I didn't have the CD at work so it couldn't complete the install. I resorted to using a restore point from last Monday which got FP running again but now Expression is repeatedly attempting to install itself at randon intervals. _____________________________ Who was the first guy that looked at a cow and said, "I think that I'll drink whatever comes out of those things when I squeeze them"? New photogalleries, stop by sometime.

Uninstalled EW beta and FP refused to work without me digging out the disk. So I did and I kept getting error messages to say the file it need wasn't on the CD even though it clearly was as I could see it. I got so annoyed with the whole thing I zapped FP completely and then for good measure, killed Office 2003 as well and went and got Open Office. I now have a full version of EW on the machine but no FP and no MS Office. _____________________________ If it ain't broke..... fix it until it is. GAWDS Now where did I put that Doctype? Have you looked at the MS knowledgebase to see if they have a solution? I couldn't find anything at M$ that seemed to apply but (hopefully not speaking too soon) after a couple of install attempts expression seems to have given up.

They allow me a little more leaway as the local IT contact (and webmaster for the company website).

Developed by Sun Systems so it's not a heap of old rope. A few things are on different menus but once you've found them you're off and running. I haven't bothered to reinstall FP as I was getting quite fond of EW and then it threw a major spanner in the works so I'm reconsidering. I assume you've set the proxy server up in FF and it still won't connect? I never had a problem with them (corporate) blocking FF but maybe that's a privilege they allow me to check the sites in multiple browsers (or maybe that comes next week

. Odd though I haven't been able to update to the latest version...

Of course all I need to do is bring the laptop home and connect.

I can't use IE though since I upgraded to 7.0 and corporate has banned it from use. I'm not going through the trouble of backsliding to 6.

No, I have them both happily running together, though EW keeps asking me if I want it to be my default editor. I rolled out something here, at work, that may be your same issue there. If anyone tries to access the internet by bypassing our proxy servers, the request is binned. To be honest I think my only chance is finding some compelling reason why I absolutely must use FF, but I think the chances are slim. I'll just have to do more working from home. Spent ages trying to figure it out. She could buy the goods, stick them in a basket and go to checkout but it wouldn't connect through to Paypal. Turned out her employer blocks it. Do you do any web work at work? That's a good enough reason - show them all the tools you use with FireFox (I know there are IE tools, but they don't need to know). It looks appalling whichever browser you view it in. It's so bad that I'm embarrassed to admit that I have author/edit rights on the damned thing. My only hope is that at a team away day a few weeks ago my manager asked for our input on what we should be doing, and said that all ideas would be considered, not matter how off the wall. My plan is to suggest a sub-site for our department that's properly accessible, has a decent (open source) CMS, and has what the visitors to our site really want, rather than the drivel they get served by the IT Dept (there's really no hope for the IT Dept - idiot head of IT thinks marquees and scrolling text are "cool" ) If I can pitch it right, and really plug the accessibility angle etc., then I might be able to persuade the Powers That Be - then I would have a compelling reason to use FF in the office. If I can put a proper proposal together and cost it all, I might just be able to convince the dept's management team. Worth a shot anyhow. The FF thing aside, I'm just so desperate to inject something interesting into the tedious monotony that is life in the office, and their site is just so unspeakably appalling that words fail me. I'm running at more "users per intranet developer" than average and could do with a hand at times. I'm sure we can squeeze you in (and we will let you use FF). It wouldn't be so bad if the rest of the IT dept were like the web guy (there's only one of him) who I had a chat with a while back. He's into standards and stuff, but he's hamstrung by the awful CMS they've got themselves tied into. The CMS runs the whole show - adding pages (for which there are a very small selection of exceedingly dull templates), editing, and the whole navigation structure's tied in with it (for which there's link after link after link - as an experiment a while back I tried getting to one particular section visitors to the site would be likely to want if they want info on our dept, using keyboard navigation - it took something like 150 tabs to get there ). You can't add a whole new section to it without using the CMS or the whole thing breaks.
