What is your best Adsense tip? - 3/2/2007 17:40:19
Hi,

What is your best Adsense tip?

I am always asked "what is your best Adsense tip?". Here is my five best and most important Adsense tips:

- Less internal and external links on the page
- Having the ads with the same background color as the page background
- Having ad links color blue (the default color of hyperlinks in html)
- Having one leaderboard 728 x 90 text ad at the top and one at the bottom of the page
- Having one 300x250 text ad at the middle of the page somewhere among texts
- Well optimized pages with a good title, description, h1 headline and ... .
- Good and fresh content.

Can you add more tips?

"Having ad links color blue (the default color of hyperlinks in html) " how does this help? ;)

Problem there is, if you have a blue or black background they're not going to be readable.

but why blue? if you redefine the anchor colour in a stylesheet what difference does it make?

It's the native colour all browsers show links. There is some thought on the web that they should be left that colour as newbies understand that they are links.

Personally I think as long as it's underlined, is a different colour that stands out from the page and therefore looks like a link, or at least, not part of normal text, then it's OK. It also helps if it changes when you hover over it so it's obvious it does something.

"It's the native colour all browsers show links." yeah i know but my question is a simple one: what benefit do you get for adsense by leaving them the default colour

Well I suppose that users know it is a link to click on. If you've styled it so it doesn't look like a link then they won't.

I think it is... whatever you can do to make it look less like an ad and more like part of the content will make it more likely that users will click on it.

That's the theory, at least, behind the "no borders" advice I've read.

Precisely so blue links aren't going to do that are they, unless your site uses blue links that is.
