Which brand notebook? - 3/5/2007 6:05:06
To make a long story short, I "inherited" a two month old, 13" MacBook, Core Duo 2, that I love (with the exception of the very sharp edges - can't believe Apple did that!!) Otherwise, I'm very impressed with the Apple OS and the quality of the monitor is amazing. I do a lot of photo editing, so the way images appear on the monitor is important. But Foxfire and Apple's Safari do not work with the content management system I use to manage my site. Besides, I think a 14-15" screen is better when working a couple of hours at a time at a computer. I have a buyer for the MacBook and am seriously thinking of selling it (though the next minute I want to keep it). However, I have no idea what brand PC notebook to buy that has the reliability record of Apple, and the great monitor. I also enjoy the feel and quiteness of the Apple keyboard. Any suggestions?

Do you have any experience working several hours at at time on a 13" screen. I am sometimes away a month or more at a time. For some strange reason, the type on the 13" screen looks smaller than on my husband's 12" notebook, even though I've tweaked the Mac every way I can think of. Even changed the resolution but then things look fuzzy.

I've always used the Toshiba Satellite. They have worked well for me.

The Dell and Toshiba Satellite monitors are very good, with the Dell, upgrade to the truebrite screen, not sure what the Toshiba one is offhand.

Thanks! - 3/5/2007 15:37:03
Thanks for the input and suggestions. I've pretty much decided I'll get a Toshiba if I decide to sell the Mac. There are a couple of things I really don't like about the MacBook, but there are lots of things to love too. Thanks again.

Well I decided to get rid of the Mac and have been looking at Toshiba. But my sister has a new 15" HP and I love it (though not crazy about the shiny outer surface and "brite" monitor). The keyboard feels better than any I've tried, the range of the built-in wireless is has a much greater reach than on my husband's notebook and, very importantly, it runs cool and quiet doing the type of work I do. Anyone have any experience with or thoughts about HP notebooks?

I had an HP a few years ago and liked it but I love Toshiba Satellite as Rich said - I bought a brand new one for $499 (!) - 512 RAM, dual processor, wireless, CD writer/DVD reader. Almost throwaway at that price.
